Using Canva Designs in ALIVE

You can design your photobooth templates in Canva and bring them into ALIVE as background images or overlays. This gives you access to Canva's massive library of fonts, graphics, stock photos, and layout tools — then use ALIVE's editor for the photo slots and final touches.

How It Works

There's no direct integration between ALIVE and Canva — instead, you design in Canva, export as an image, and import into ALIVE's template editor. It's a simple workflow that gives you the best of both worlds.

Step-by-Step Workflow

  1. Design in Canva — Create your template layout in Canva using the correct dimensions for your print size (e.g., 1200x1800px for a 4x6 print at 300 DPI)
  2. Leave space for photos — Leave transparent or solid-colored rectangles where guest photos will appear
  3. Export from Canva — Export as a PNG (best for transparency) or JPG at the highest resolution available
  4. Import into ALIVE — Open the template editor on the web dashboard, go to the Uploads tab, and upload your Canva export as a background image
  5. Add photo slots — Position your photo slots on top of the design where you left space for guest photos
  6. Save — Your template is ready to use at events

Design Tips for Canva

  • Match the canvas size — Set your Canva document to the exact pixel dimensions of your ALIVE template
  • Leave photo slot areas blank — Don't put anything in the areas where guest photos will appear
  • Use high resolution — Always export at the highest quality. Low-res backgrounds look blurry when printed
  • Flatten your design — Export as a single image so it imports cleanly
  • Use Canva's brand kit — Keep client templates consistent across all their marketing materials and photobooth designs

Common Print Sizes

Print Size

Recommended Canvas Size (300 DPI)

2x6 strip

600 x 1800 px

4x6 card

1200 x 1800 px

5x7 card

1500 x 2100 px

Tips

  • Create reusable Canva templates for your most common print sizes so you can quickly customize per client
  • Collaborate with clients by sharing the Canva design for approval before importing into ALIVE
  • Add dynamic text in ALIVE — If your design includes text that changes per event (like event names or dates), add those as text elements in ALIVE's editor instead of baking them into the Canva export
