Recording and Downloading AR Content

The ALIVE Guest App lets guests capture and save their AR experience in two ways — screen recording and direct download. Here's how each one works.

Screen Recording

Guests can record the full AR experience as a video — the camera feed, the AR animation, everything on screen.

How to Record

  1. Open the ALIVE Guest App and point at a printed photo
  2. Wait for the AR video to start playing on the print
  3. Tap the Record button
  4. The app hides UI elements so only the AR experience is captured
  5. Move the phone around the photo to capture different angles
  6. Tap anywhere on the screen to stop recording
  7. The video is automatically saved to the phone's gallery
  8. A share sheet appears so guests can instantly send it to Instagram, TikTok, WhatsApp, or any other app

What Gets Recorded

  • The live camera feed (what the phone sees)
  • The AR video playing on top of the printed photo
  • Ambient audio from the microphone (if permission is granted)
  • No UI buttons or overlays — they're hidden during recording for a clean capture

Recording Tips

  • Slow, steady movements — Moving the phone too fast makes the video shaky
  • Start close, pull back — Dramatic reveal shots work great for social media
  • Hold for a few seconds — Let the AR effect loop at least once before stopping
  • Landscape or portrait — Both work, but portrait is better for Instagram Stories and TikTok

Downloading Media

Guests can also download the original photo and animated video directly to their phone — no recording needed.

How to Download

  1. Point the phone at a printed photo
  2. Wait for the AR to recognize and start playing
  3. Tap the Download button
  4. Both files are saved to the phone's photo gallery:
  • The original still photo (as captured by the booth)
  • The animated ALIVE video (the AR video file)

Download Details

  • The download button only appears after the app has matched a photo — it won't show up if no match is found
  • After tapping download, a checkmark confirmation appears briefly
  • There's a short cooldown before you can download again (prevents accidental double-taps)
  • Supported file formats: JPG, PNG, MP4, MOV, and more

The Difference: Recording vs Download

For the best social media content, guests should do both — download the originals for quality, and record the AR moment for the "wow" factor.

  • iOS (iPhone and iPad)
  • Android (devices with ARCore support)

Troubleshooting

Download button doesn't appear?

The app hasn't matched a photo yet. Make sure the printed photo is well-lit, flat, and fully visible in the camera frame.

Recording has no sound?

The guest declined microphone permission. They can re-enable it in their phone's Settings → ALIVE → Microphone.

Video didn't save?

Check that storage/photo library permission is granted. On Android, the app needs storage access. On iOS, it needs photo library access.
