Question Types and Builder
The questionnaire builder gives you a flexible set of question types to collect exactly the information you need from clients. Here's a closer look at each type and how to use the builder effectively.
Question Types
Short Text
A single-line text input. Best for concise answers.
Good for: Client name, venue name, event theme, company name
Long Text
A multi-line text area that gives clients room to write detailed responses.
Good for: Special requests, event description, dietary requirements, setup instructions
Number
A numeric input that only accepts numbers.
Good for: Guest count, number of hours, budget amount, number of booths needed
Single Select
A dropdown menu where the client picks one option from a list you define.
Good for: Event type (wedding, corporate, birthday), preferred time slot, package selection
Multi Select
Checkboxes where the client can pick multiple options from your list.
Good for: Preferred effects, add-on services, entertainment preferences, available dates
Date
A date picker that lets the client select a specific date from a calendar.
Good for: Event date, setup date, follow-up date, deadline
File Upload
Lets clients upload files directly through the questionnaire.
Good for: Company logos, mood boards, reference images, venue floor plans, guest lists
Building Effective Questionnaires
Ordering Questions
Questions appear in the order you add them. You can drag and reorder questions in the builder to create a logical flow. Start with the basics (event type, date, guest count) and work toward specifics (special requests, file uploads).
Required vs Optional
Mark questions as required when you absolutely need the answer before proceeding. Use optional questions for nice-to-have information that won't block the process.
Placeholder Text
Add placeholder text to give clients a hint about what you're looking for. For example:
- "e.g., 150 guests" for a guest count field
- "e.g., The Grand Ballroom, 123 Main St" for a venue field
- "Describe any specific themes or requests..." for a long text field
Options for Select Questions
When using Single Select or Multi Select types, add clear and complete options. Avoid vague labels — be specific so clients can answer quickly without second-guessing.
Attaching Questionnaires to Proposals
Once your template is ready, you attach it to proposals in the proposal builder:
- Open a proposal in the builder
- Go to the Questionnaire tab
- Select the template you want to attach
- Choose the trigger — when the questionnaire appears in the client's flow:
- Before Signing — Client must complete it before they can sign
- After Signing — Appears right after the signature
- Before Payment — Appears before the payment step
- After Payment — Appears after payment is complete
- Set whether it's required or optional
You can attach multiple questionnaires to a single proposal with different triggers.
