Printer Not Found — Troubleshooting Network Discovery
Your iPad can't find the printer? Don't panic. Here are the most common causes and fixes.
Quick Checklist
Run through these first:
- ✅ Is ALIVE Magic Print running on your computer?
- ✅ Is the computer powered on and not sleeping?
- ✅ Are the iPad and computer on the exact same Wi-Fi network?
- ✅ Is the printer connected to the computer via USB and powered on?
- ✅ Did you grant ALIVE local network permission on your iPad?
Common Issues and Fixes
1. Different Networks
The most common issue. Your iPad and computer must be on the same network.
- Check the Wi-Fi name on both devices — they should match exactly
- Some venues have multiple networks (Guest, Staff, 5GHz, 2.4GHz) — make sure both devices are on the same one
- Fix: Connect both devices to the same Wi-Fi network
2. Local Network Permission Not Granted
iOS requires apps to request permission to discover devices on the local network.
- Go to iPad Settings → Privacy & Security → Local Network
- Make sure ALIVE Photobooth is enabled
- Fix: Toggle the permission on and restart ALIVE
3. Network Isolation / AP Isolation
Many hotel and corporate networks isolate devices from each other for security. This prevents ALIVE from finding the print server.
- Fix: Bring your own portable Wi-Fi router and create a private network for your equipment
4. Firewall Blocking
Your computer's firewall might be blocking ALIVE Magic Print from accepting network connections.
- On Windows, check Windows Firewall settings
- On macOS, check System Settings → Network → Firewall
- Make sure ALIVE Magic Print is allowed through the firewall
- Fix: Add a firewall exception for ALIVE Magic Print
5. Print Server Not Started
ALIVE Magic Print might be installed but not actually running.
- Check that the app is open and the server status shows "Running"
- Fix: Open ALIVE Magic Print and wait for it to start
Still Not Working?
Try these backup connection methods:
- QR Code — Scan the QR code displayed in ALIVE Magic Print
- Manual URL — Enter the server URL manually in ALIVE's printer settings
- Restart everything — Close and reopen both ALIVE and ALIVE Magic Print
- Restart your router — Power cycle your Wi-Fi router
Last Resort
If nothing works:
- Restart the iPad
- Restart the computer
- Restart the router
- Reconnect everything from scratch
