Connecting to a Print Server (QR Code, Manual URL)

Can't find your printer via auto-discovery? No problem. ALIVE gives you two manual ways to connect.

The easiest manual connection method.

  1. Open ALIVE Magic Print on your computer
  2. The app displays a QR code with the connection details
  3. In ALIVE on your iPad, go to SettingsPrinting
  4. Tap Scan QR Code
  5. Point your iPad camera at the QR code on your computer screen
  6. Connected!

This is the fastest way to connect, especially at new venues where you haven't saved the printer before.

Method 2: Manual URL

If QR scanning isn't working (screen too bright, too far away, etc.):

  1. On your print server (computer), find the server URL — it looks something like http://192.168.1.50:47653
  2. In ALIVE on your iPad, go to SettingsPrinting
  3. Tap Enter URL Manually
  4. Type in the server URL
  5. Tap Connect

Saving Connections

Once you've connected to a print server, ALIVE remembers it. Next time you're at the same venue with the same setup, the connection should re-establish automatically (as long as the IP hasn't changed).

Verifying the Connection

After connecting, you should see:

  • The printer name and status in your settings
  • Paper size information detected from the printer
  • The option to send a test print

Always send a test print after connecting. It confirms that the full chain — ALIVE → network → print server → printer — is working correctly.

Tips

  • QR code is fastest — Use it whenever possible
  • Static IP helps — If your print server's IP changes every time, manual URL connections break. Set a static IP on your router if you can.
  • Save a photo of the QR code — If you frequently use the same setup, screenshot the QR code so you always have it handy
